On the 13th of December 2017, SmartWave hosted the Docker Geneva Meetup in its new office extension. Even if the room is quite large, it was just enough to welcome the 57 Docker enthusiasts.
Our distinguished guest was Tibor Vass software engineer in the Linux Docker team in San Francisco. You can discover more about Tibor in the following interview where we discussed about : his arriving at Docker, the French history of Docker, the relationship between Docker and the main open source contributors (Microsoft, Google, Amazon and IBM), why open source community adopted so largely Docker technology, differences between community and enterprise versions, Docker and business critical applications, the arriving of Kubernetes in Docker and the future of Swarm.
We started the meetup with a presentation from Tibor Vass. He gave us a high level level overview of Docker by comparing traditional monolithic application building approach vs micro services supported by Docker. He illustrated Docker usage in the context of increased deployment pace and described the basics of Docker : engine, registry, container and image. He finished the presentation with a live product demonstration.
We continued the session with SmartWave Docker team. They shared our experience in using Docker for our customer. They explained how they Dockerized Axway products API Manager and API Gateway. The main tasks described were : application layering design, secured Cent OS layer creation, product isolation (API Gateway, API Management, Cassandra), Docker image stack creation with Docker compose, software factory integration, deployment automation and environment configuration management with XebiaLabs XL Deploy
SmartWave Docker team thanks all participants ! Yann Thomas, Mohamed Bouchenafa, Antoine Palavioux, Eric Duquesnoy, Daniel Fauraz
